WOU hosts annual hoops tournament
2009 Phoenix Inn D2 Shootout
MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Western Oregon men's and women's basketball programs will team up to host their annual WOU/Phoenix Inn D2 Shootout, Nov. 20-21.

Both the men's and women's field will contain four NCAA Division II opponents in a classic format with all opponents predetermined. The women's field will consist of Cal State Monterey Bay, Mesa State, Northwest Nazarene and Western Oregon while Hawaii Hilo, Notre Dame de Namur, Saint Martin's and Western Oregon make up the men's side.

"Its an opportunity for us to bring in DII talent from around the country," said WOU men's coach Craig Stanger.

Games will be played both Friday and Saturday afternoon through the evening. Friday's contests will begin at 2:00 p.m., with Northwest Nazarene taking on Mesa State and it will be followed by the Western Oregon women's team facing Cal State Monterey Bay. The men's games will begin at 6:00 p.m., with Saint Martin's tipping-off against Hawaii Hilo. The Western Oregon men's first game will take place after at approximately 8:00 p.m., as they take on Hawaii Hilo. The tournament will continue Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Please check below for a complete schedule.

This is the 17th season of the WOU/Phoenix Inn D2 Shootout, which was previously known as the Wolfpack Classic as far back as 1990. This is also just the third season the tournament has featured a women's bracket.

Baseball
Lopez had seven hits, including a double and two home runs, to lead the eight-time defending conference champion Wolves to three wins in four games in their conference opening series at NNU.

Softball
Tyler Sutherland went 6-for-13 with two doubles, two home runs, four RBI and five runs to help Western Oregon take three of four games from Montana State Billings.
