MONMOUTH, Ore. - Western Oregon University head softball coach
Pam Knox announced the signing of five new student-athletes to National Letters of Intent, Wednesday (Nov. 18).
The Wolves inked five high school seniors from throughout the state of Oregon during the early signing period, which ran from Nov. 11-Nov. 18.
Alex Hilmick has compiled a very impressive resume during her time at Pendleton High School. She has been named the conference's pitcher of the year, the offensive player of the year as well as a scholar-athlete. "Alex will bring a pure athleticism to our program," said Knox. "She can pitch, hit and play other positions because she is such an outstanding athlete. She will make an immediate impact on the mound upon her arrival at WOU."
Ashley Worthey will join the 2009-10 recruiting class out of Century High School in Aloha, Ore. During her interscholastic career she has been a first team all-conference selection and a second team all-state honoree. "Ashley a very athletic and outstanding receiving catcher who has a cannon for an arm," Knox said.
Outfielder Jamie Gregory was a member of the 6A state champions at Grants Pass High School. "Jamie is a very quick outfielder who will use her power and at the plate," explained Knox.
A fellow member of the Grants Pass 6A state champions Tia Misfeldt has also signed an NLI to play for the Wolves. "Tia is a very quick catcher and an excellent receiver," noted Knox. "She is also an outstanding student in the classroom."
Emily Cote' is the final member of Knox's recruiting class. The infielder joins the Wolves out of Harrisburg High School. "Emily is very athletic infielder with a strong bat," said Knox. "She is also a member of the basketball team and is a standout in the classroom."
These are the first members of the 2009-10 WOU softball recruiting class.
