SEATTLE - The Western Oregon men's and women's track and field team had 12 student-athletes earn a place on the Great Northwest Athletic Conference top 10 list for the 2009 Indoor season at the UW Indoor Open, Sunday, Feb. 15.
Chris Freemen earned two places on the Wolves all-time top 10 indoor marks in both the 60-meter dash and the long jump. Freemen registered a 7.13 in the 60m to move into ninth place in school history and to sixth place on the 2009 GNAC list. He also posted the 10th best mark in Western Oregon school history in the men's long jump as he leaped 21-11 (6.68m). That mark moved him to third place in the GNAC and helped him win section two of the long jump at the UW Indoor Open.
Jacque Helbling was the highlight on the women's side as she posted season-bests in both the 60m hurdles (9.41) and the long jump (16-10/5.13m). Her long jump mark moved her into fifth place in the GNAC while her 9.41 in the 60m hurdles propelled her to second.
In the men's 400m,
Ashtin Mott finished in 50.50 while
Blake Estep notched a 50.51 to move to fourth and fifth place, respectively, in the GNAC. The Wolves are now ranked third, fourth and fifth on the list as
Andy Loscutoff sits in third with a 50.43.
In her first triple jump of the season,
Zoe Skordahl registered a leap of 33-4.50 (10.17m) to rank ninth in the GNAC.
Meryl Butcher posted a 1:01.23 in the women's 400m to also rank ninth in the conference.
Alyssa Taylor notched a 41-0.25 (12.50m) in the weight throw to rank 10th.
In other men's action,
Matt Lariza cleared 6-2.75 (1.90m) in the high jump to move to fifth in the GNAC.
Dan Spinkle now owns the GNAC's seventh-best time in the mile this season with a 4:29.14. In the triple jump,
Tyler Reisnaur recorded a 43-11.25 (13.39m) to finish fourth in the event at the meet and to move to seventh in the league.
Dylan Wells ran a 7.17 in the 60m to match a career-best and move to eighth place in the conference.
Robert Manwell also set a season-best as he registered a 9.21 in the 60m hurdles to move to ninth in the GNAC.
"We needed to get people qualified and we did that," said Western Oregon head coach
Mike Johnson. "We are in better shape than we were three days ago but we still have work to do before the GNAC meet."
The Western Oregon track and field team will be in Nampa, Idaho Saturday, Feb. 21, for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
