MONMOUTH, Ore. - Western Oregon head women's basketball coach Greg Bruce announced the signing of Courtney Martin to a National Letter of Intent Wednesday, May. 6.

Martin, a 5-11 guard/forward from Redmond, Wash. (Redmond High School), led the Mustangs in scoring and rebounding as a senior. She averaged 17.9 points and 6.9 boards per game to go along with an 82.0 percent mark at the free throw line. As a junior she also paced RHS in scoring (17.0) and rebounding (7.3).

She earned first team All-KingCo Conference (4A) honors as both a junior and senior after leading the league in scoring both years. Martin was a three-time team MVP and only the second player in Redmond High School history to score over 1,000 career points. She will also leave RHS as the school's all-time leader in nearly every free throw category as she holds or tied the record for consecutive free throws made (22), free throws made in a season (103), season free throw percentage (82.0), career free throws made (249) and career free throw percentage (76.0).

"Courtney is an outstanding all-around player who can play multiple positions," Bruce explained. "She has a very high basketball IQ and seems to really understand the game. She can flat out score in a variety of ways and is always in the gym working to get better.

"We are extremely fortunate to be able to add a student-athlete of Courts caliber to our program, Bruce continued." She has a chance to be an immediate impact player in her first year at WOU and I'm very excited that Courtney Martin has chosen to be a Wolf!"

Martin will be attending WOU in the fall and plans to major in Criminal Justice. She is currently a member of the National Honor Society with a 3.40 GPA. Her parents are Rob and Joyce Martin of Redmond. Martin played her high school ball under coach Dennis Edwards.
