MONMOUTH, Ore. - More than a year after the incredible act of sportsmanship, displayed in the Western Oregon and Central Washington softball game, the "moment" is still touching the lives of all that hear this wonderful story of virtue and kindness. This June 29th Sports Illustrated article goes to show that this act has transcended the boundaries of sport.

This fantastic display of gamesmanship occurred April 26, 2008 when Western Oregon’s Sara Tucholsky hit a three-run shot over the fence against Central Washington, her round-tripper gave the Wolves a lead and it also went into the books as the first career home run for the senior outfielder.

But after injuring her knee rounding first, she needed help to make the complete circuit around the bases. In stepped CWU’s Mallory Holtman and Liz Wallace, who carried the hobbled Tucholsky around the diamond in an amazing gesture of sportsmanship.

The softball “moment” was chronicled by ESPN and has since seen nearly a half million hits on YouTube. The former opponents, now friends, spent the five months after the home run traveling all across the country, telling the story to a nation that was starved to hear it, from Yankee Stadium in New York at the all-star game to the Ellen Degeneres Show in Los Angeles.
