Karr earns CoSIDA/ESPN academic honors

MONMOUTH, Ore. - Nik Karr of the Western Oregon University track & field and cross country teams has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII first team for his outstanding athletic and scholarly accomplishments.

The senior from Tigard, Ore. (Tigard High School), earned a 3.86 GPA in Health while competing in both indoor and outdoor track along with cross country. He was also recognized for his performance in the classroom by the Great Northwest Athletic Conference as he was named to the Academic All-Star Team for the third consecutive season, becoming only one of six males to accomplish that feat this season.

He also excelled within his sports as he finished 20th at GNAC cross country championships and 28th at the west regional. At the indoor GNAC championships he earned three team points for Western Oregon as he finish sixth in the 5000m with a time of 15:37.23. Karr was also the eighth seed in the 10,000m at the GNAC outdoor championships before they were canceled.

Karr and Jordan Welling of Western Washington are the only males in the GNAC to be named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine academic team.

Baseball
Lopez had seven hits, including a double and two home runs, to lead the eight-time defending conference champion Wolves to three wins in four games in their conference opening series at NNU.
Tyler  Sutherland
Softball
Tyler Sutherland went 6-for-13 with two doubles, two home runs, four RBI and five runs to help Western Oregon take three of four games from Montana State Billings.
