MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Western Oregon University baseball coaching staff will have a new look in the 2010 season as Kellen Walker has been promoted to the role of recruiting coordinator and Matt Skundrick has been hired as the pitching coach, announced WOU head coach Jeremiah Robbins Wednesday, July 1.

Walker has been with the Western Oregon baseball program for the past three seasons working mainly as the infielders coach and hitting instructor but will now assume the role of recruiting coordinator in addition to his other duties.

"Coach Walker has been with us for three seasons and he is ready to take on the recruiting coordinator position," noted Robbins.

Skundrick will be returning to his alma mater after accepting the role of pitching coach after playing for the Wolves in 2005 and 2006. He will join Robbins' coaching staff after spending the 2009 season as the pitching coach for Corban College in which he helped mentor Jason Braun, a 29th round draft pick of the Cincinnati Reds.

"I am very excited about the addition of Matt Skundrick to the WOU baseball program," Robbins said. "He had an outstanding career at WOU and his knowledge of the baseball program and its history will be a big asset to our staff.

"With Liam Woodard departing to be full time at Gear Athletics it opened up two positions," continued Robbins. "To have two coaches of Kellen and Matt's status available was a huge opportunity for WOU Baseball to move forward"

Sam Kirby will also return for his second season to round out the Wolves' coaching staff.
