Wolves drop series finale to Tritons

LA JOLLA, Calif. - No. 1 ranked UC San Diego put 19 runs and 24 hits on the scoreboard to complete the four-game sweep of the Western Oregon baseball team with a 19-5 win, Monday (Feb. 8).

The win lifted the Tritons to 5-1 on the season, while the Wolves fell to 0-4.

UC San Diego put up five runs in the third and broke the game open in the fourth with a nine-run inning.

Brandon Gregorich led the Tritons at the plate, as he went 3-for-3 with five runs batted in. Michael Benton also added three RBI, while Kyle Saul and Vance Albitz knocked in two runs apiece.

Western Oregon scored all five of its runs in the fifth inning. Cody Reeves led off the inning with a solo shot to get the Wolves on the board. Cesar Lopez and Logan Lotti each then followed with a two-run shot later in the inning.

Kirby St. John earned the win for UCSD, as he went five innings giving up five runs and seven hits while striking out six and walking one. Kirk Lind picked up the loss for the Wolves. He was charged with 10 runs and 11 hits in three innings of work.

The Western Oregon baseball team will now go to Cal Poly Pomona for a doubleheader with the Broncos, Tuesday (Feb. 9). First pitch has been moved up to 10:00 a.m.
