MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Western Oregon baseball team stretched its run of conference honors to three in four weeks, as Cesar Lopez was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of Mar. 1-7.

Lopez, a senior shortstop from Walla Walla, Wash. (DeSales Catholic High School/ Walla Walla CC) had seven hits, including a double and two home runs, to lead the eight-time defending conference champions to three wins in four games in their conference opening series at Northwest Nazarene. Lopez hit for a .389 average and posted .450 and .778 on-base and slugging percentages in the series. He scored six runs, drove in five and posted a perfect fielding percentage handling 14 chances without an error.

Lopez's selection marks the third straight time a Wolf has been named either pitcher or hitter of the week in the conference when eligible. WOU did not play during the week of Feb. 22-28 an therefore did not qualify for a weekly award. For the week of Feb. 15-21 it was Kyle Boe earning the hitter of the week honor and the week before Jacob Pettit captured the pitcher of the week award.
