What's happening:

The Western Oregon University track & field team will compete in the Willamette Invite, Apr. 2-3. Friday's field competition will get underway at 3:00 p.m., with the men's hammer and the women's pole vault. The running events will start 4:15 with the women's 10k. The meet will continue Saturday at 10:00 a.m.

The Fields:
The Willamette Invite will feature teams from throughout the northwest, ranging from Division I to junior college.

The Facilities:
The meet will be held at Charles Bowles Track and McCulloch Stadium in Bush's Pasture Park

Coach Johnson's words:
On the meet: "We always look forward to meets at Willamette. They do a good job running meets, especially the distance carnival on Friday."

On the challenge of the meet: "Right now we are looking at the April trifecta: rain, wind and cold. We have been checking the forecast and hopefully we get some good weather for the meet."

On his team's focus: "With the term starting this week we are looking to get our feet back on the ground and start focusing on training towards the GNAC Championships in May (14-15)."

On the entries: "This will be a full team competition with a majority of our team competing. We will be moving some of the student-athletes around in events a bit and some will be running out of their normal event areas. Also, some of the people that ran last weekend will be training through the meet."

Wolves on top of the GNAC performance list:
A number of WOU student-athletes are currently sitting atop the 2010 GNAC performance list.

Ashley Potter set the GNAC record in the women's triple jump with a leap of 39-8.75 (12.11m) at the Stanford Invite. Her mark was just four centimeters off the NCAA automatic qualifying standard. Her leap eclipsed the previous conference record by five centimeters.

Loscutoff ranks first in both men's hurdles events. He ran a time of 15.13 in the 110m hurdles at the Willamette Opener to grab the top spot in the conference. In the same meet he also posted a time of 54.46 in the 400m hurdles, to lead the event in GNAC by nearly a second (.98). Both of these times have stood as the best in the conference for nearly a month.

Jason Slowey sits atop the top of the GNAC performance list in both the discus with a toss of 155-1 (47.26m) at the Oregon Preview to take the lead by two-and-half feet.

Matson Hardie is first in the triple jump with a leap of 45-4.5 (13.83m), which he obtained at the Oregon Preview.

Lacey Meusec is pacing the women's 100m dash by .11 seconds with a time of 12.49, which she earned at the Willamette Opener. She also sits third in the 200m with a time of 25.96.

The Wolves 4x400m relay team of Stefani Dittmar, McKenzie Redberg, Carolanne Powers and Lacey Meusec posted a time of 48.70 to grab the top spot in the GNAC this outdoor season.

Movement on the top 10:
Nine Western Oregon student-athletes have moved onto or up on the Wolves' all-time top 10 list.

Sophomore Ashley Potter climbed from fourth to first place on the Wolves' all-time top 10 list in the triple jump with a mark of 39-8.75 (12.11m) at the Stanford invite. That mark was nearly two feet longer than her previous best mark and broke the 16-year school record held by Alicia Marshall (38-11.75).

Chris Reed ran a time of 14:24.24 in the 5000m to climb to second in WOU history and to fourth on the all-time GNAC list. He also registered a time of 3:53.58 in the men's 1500m to climb to seventh place on the Wolves' all-time top 10 list.

Janelle Everetts and Mike Schmidt both made their way to fifth place on the women's and men's all-time top 10 lists in the 800m run, respectively. Everetts registered a time of 2:13.15 at the Stanford Invite, while Mike Schmidt registered a time of 1:53.29 in the same meet.

Matt Kaino moved into fifth place on the 400m dash list with a time of 48.30, as he won the event at the Oregon Preview by .48 seconds. That time left him just .3 seconds short of an NCAA provisional qualifying standard.

Freshman Connor Kasler now owns the fifth place mark in the 800m in Western Oregon history in both indoor and outdoor track. He ran a time of 1:53.58 at the Oregon Preview to make his move into the WOU record books. His time was .58 seconds off an NCAA provisional standard.

Amanda Wright grabbed the fifth-best mark in school history in the 5000m with a time of 18:09.12 at the San Francisco State Carnival Meet. This was the fastest time for a Western Oregon runner in the event in over 12 years.

Kaitlyn Reid improved her season-best time to 1:04.53 in the 400m hurdles at the Oregon Preview to ascend to seventh place in the WOU record books.

Carolanne Powers recorded a javelin toss of 133-1(40.57m) to earn an NCAA provisional qualifying standard and move into sixth place in school history at the Willamette Opener.
