[NCBWA All-West Region team]
MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Western Oregon University baseball team paced the West Region with nine selections to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association team.
The Wolves earned one first team honor, to go along with four second team and four honorable mention selections.
Jacob Pettit led the way by grabbing a selection on the first team's pitching staff. The senior from Orting, Wash. (Orting HS/Green River CC), was the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year after finishing the season with a 7-1 record and a conference record 1.80 ERA. He ended the season with a 20 consecutive inning scoreless streak, which included two complete game shutouts. He also tied for the league lead in wins and shutouts, and finished fourth in opponent batting average (.238) and ninth in strike outs (45). This marked the second all-region honor Pettit has received this season, as he also earned a second team selection on the Daktronics ballot.
Kyle Boe, Daniel Dillard, Jason Moseby and Michael Ward were each named to the All-West Region second team.
Boe, a senior third baseman from Burlington, Wash. (Burlington-Edison HS/Skagit CC), was Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He hit .365 with seven home runs and 38 RBI, to go along with a .442 on-base percentage and 48 runs scored.
Dillard, a junior outfielder from Olalla, Wash. (South Kitsap HS/Pierce CC), broke the Western Oregon school record and led the GNAC with 16 home runs this season. Dillard also led the conference in runs scored (tied-51), total bases (128) and slugging (.699). He was also named to the Daktronics All-West Region second team.
Moseby, a senior outfielder from Bellevue, Wash. (Newport HS/Bellevue CC), finished fourth in the league with a .359 batting average. Moseby also ranked third in home runs (7) and doubles (16), while placing fourth in on-base percentage (.438) and second in slugging (.601). This was the second all-region selection of the season for Moseby.
Ward, a junior right handed pitcher from Eugene, Ore. (South Eugene HS), was the Wolves No. 1 pitcher for most of the season. He led the GNAC with 83 strike outs, 87.1 innings pitched and a .204 opponent batting average. Ward also finished second in the league with a 2.78 ERA. Ward was a first team All-GNAC selection in 2008 as a sophomore.
Grant Glover, Devon Bouvier, Blake Keitzman and Kirk Lind all joined the NCBWA All-West Region team as honorable mention selections.
Glover, a junior second baseman McMinnville, Ore. (McMinnville HS/Mt. Hood CC), posted a 30-game hitting streak this season to break the Western Oregon and GNAC records. He finished ninth in the league with a .342 batting average as the Wolves posted a 24-4 record after he took over the leadoff role on Mar. 27.
Bouvier, an outfielder from Kennewick, Wash. (Kennewick HS/Yakima Valley CC), took over a starting outfield role halfway through the season. He ended the year batting .358 with nine stolen bases and 21 RBI.
Keitzman, a senior lefty from Roseburg, Ore. (Roseburg HS/Oregon State), tied for the league lead with seven wins and placed fourth with a 3.84 ERA. He also paced the conference with eight shutouts and 9.12 strike outs per nine innings. Keitzman also earned unanimous first team all-conference honors as a junior.
Lind, a sophomore from Vancouver, Wash. (Prairie HS), earned the relief pitcher honors on the second team. He went 5-5 out of the pen with four saves and 28 strike outs in 33 innings.
