WOU places four on ABCA region team

MONMOUTH, Ore. - Once again the Western Oregon University baseball team was well represented on an All-West Region team. Four Wolves were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association all-region team, with one of them taking home Gold Glove honors.

Jacob Pettit was the lone first team selection, while Daniel Dillard, Kyle Boe and Michael Ward all received second team honors. Dillard was also one of three outfielders in the West Region to earn a Gold Glove.

Pettit led the West Region pitching staff with a 1.80 ERA, as he allowed just 15 earned runs in 75 innings pitched. That ERA ranked Pettit ninth in Division II. Pettit also posted 45 strike outs compared to 15 walks. He was named the 2010 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year with a 7-1 record. He tied for the league lead in wins and shutouts, and finished fourth in opponent batting average (.238) and ninth in strike outs (45). This marks the second all-region first team Pettit has been named to this season, he also earned a second team selection.

Dillard posted a perfect fielding percentage this season; making 108 put outs without an error, en route to earning a Gold Glove. Dillard also grabbed second team all-regional honors after breaking the Western Oregon school record with 16 home runs this season. He lead the GNAC in home runs, runs scored (tied-51), total bases (128) and slugging (.699). Dillard has now been named to the All-West Region second team by the NCBWA, Daktronics and ABCA.

Boe snagged second team honors as a third baseman. He was Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He hit .365 with seven home runs and 38 RBI, to go along with a .442 on-base percentage and 48 runs scored. This was the second all-west region honor for Boe, as he was also named to the second team on the NCBWA squad.

Ward earned his place on the second team with a 2.78 ERA and a 6-1 record. Ward ranked 14th in the country with 1.24 walks per nine innings and 19th with 6.7 hits allowed per nine. He struck out 9.12 batters per nine innings and opponents hit just .204 off him. Ward also earned second team All-West Region in the NCBWA poll.
