MONMOUTH, Ore. - Jacob Pettit has been selected in the 42nd round of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the Baltimore Orioles, Wednesday, June 9.
Pettit joins fellow Western Oregon University pitcher Blake Keitzman as 2010 draftees, marking the first time in school history the Wolves have had two players selected in the same season.
"This is token of hard work that those two guys have put in," said Western Oregon head coach Jeremiah Robbins. "They are two phenomenal guys that have done more for this program than they will ever know."
Pettit, a 6-1, 185 lbs, left-handed pitcher from Orting, Wash. (Orting High School), was the 2010 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year after posting a league-record 1.80 earned run average to go along with a 7-1 record. Pettit ended the season with 20 consecutive scoreless innings and was named to all three all-regional teams. Opponents hit just .238 off of him and he tied for the conference lead in wins and shutouts.
Pettit came to WOU as a junior from Green River Community College and worked his way to being a MLB draft pick (1258 overall).
