MONMOUTH, Ore. - After almost four weeks of installation the new turf on the Western Oregon University baseball field is nearly complete. The ground has been leveled, the drainage systems put in place and the turf installed in what will be the best baseball field in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
Pro Turf Solutions, out of Durango, Colo., has been diligently working on the field since the end of June and are completing the final stages of the high quality synthetic sport surface.
The entire infield has been completed, leaving just the pitching mound as a dirt surface. The outfield has been left as natural grass.
There are three final steps before the project will be complete. The first will be to put in a six-foot transition section of sod between the infield turf and the outfield grass to smooth out the lip caused by years of dragging the field. The second will be to install a Wolves logo located behind home plate. The final touch will be the placement of the on-deck circles equipped with the WOU logo.
Western Oregon head baseball coach Jeremiah Robbins continues to be excited of all the opportunities this field will provide the Wolves including increased number of home games, more outdoor practices and advantages in recruiting.
