Women's hoops add Leichtle
Jamee Leichtle
MONMOUTH, Ore. - Jamee Leichtle becomes the fifth member of the 2010-11 Western Oregon University women’s basketball recruiting class. Leichtle, a 5-4 point guard from Denver, Colo., played her freshman year at Ottawa University, after graduating from JF Kennedy High School in 2009.

Jamee was a three-sport athlete at Kennedy, participating in softball and track along with basketball. In her senior season, she was the second leading scorer in the state of Colorado, averaging 21.5 points per game (which included 17 games where she scored at least 20 points) while ranking seventh in free throw percentage at 72.8% in 99 attempts. She shot 50% from the field, made 53 out of a 147 3-pt. shots while averaging 3.6 in both assists and steals. She was a four-time first team all-league selection and was named all-state as a senior. She participated in the Colorado High School All-State Game where she led her team with 14 points and seven assists.

“Don’t let Jamee’s diminutive size fool you,” says WOU head coach Greg Bruce. “She is extremely quick while handling the ball and has an ankle-breaking cross-over move! Her ability to get into the lane and either finish her own shot, find a spotted up 3-pt. shooter, or draw a foul and get to the free throw line will be a tremendous asset in our up-tempo dribble-drive offense.

"She got stuck in a walk-it-up style program as a freshman, but has the skills to be a dynamite point guard in our system. After entertaining over 30 offers from other colleges, we are very fortunate Jamee has chosen WOU to continue her college career.”

Coach Darrow Fontera of the Colorado Heat says, “Jamee is a great person who is very loyal and hard-working. Besides being extremely coachable and having a high basketball IQ, she loves to get the ball up and down the court. Jamee will make a great contribution both academically and athletically to Western Oregon University.”

In addition to her athletic accolades, Leichtle was named to the CHSAA Academic All-State team with a 3.52 high school GPA. She plans to major in psychology at Western Oregon. Her parents are James and Diana Leichtle.
