NAMPA, Idaho – The Western Oregon men's track & field team captured their fourth straight Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Championships as they came from behind on day two.
The men entered the final day of the championships trailing Western Washington 40 to 36.33 but outscored the Vikings by 16 on Saturday to win the meet 147.83 to 135.
“This is a tangible representation of the work and diligence of the individuals that contribute so much from themselves to the team effort,” said Western Oregon head coach
Mike Johnson.
“I felt last night the men's team had a chance to win because we never lost focus on collective or individual accomplishments,” Johnson continued. “It was a meet of small and great accomplishments, and we came focused through a fog of chaos.”
The Wolves had a number of individuals win events at the meet and earn 10 team points for the men.
Matt Schryvers won the weight throw with a career-best throw of 56-7.25 (17.25m). That mark moved him into seventh place in Western Oregon history.
Chris Reed won the men's mile by over 3.5 seconds with a time of 4:12.22. He followed that up with a third place finish, and six team points, in the 800m dash.
Jason Slowey defended his title in the shot put on Friday night with a career-best toss of 52-8 (16.05m). That throw earned him an NCAA provisional qualifying standard and moved him into second place on the Wolves' all-time top 10 list.

Madison McClung ran a 25.66 in just her second 200m race of the season to place second in the event and move into second place on the Wolves' all-time top 10 list. McClung also placed second in the 60m dash to grab eight team points with a time of 7.88.
