MONMOUTH, Ore. -
Grant Glover and
Kirk Lind of the Western Oregon baseball team each picked up Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for the week of Jan. 31-Feb. 6, for their outstanding performances against No. 1 UC San Diego.
Glover earned the GNAC Player of the Week after batting .429 and figuring in five of the Wolves' 11 runs in their four-game series at San Diego, scoring four and driving in one. The senior second baseman from McMinnville, Ore. (McMinnville HS) had six hits in 14 at bats, hitting safely in the three nine-inning games, but going 0-for-2 in the seven-inning contest as his GNAC record 32-game streak came to an end. Glover had two doubles and a sacrifice in Sunday's 7-5 victory over the No. 1 ranked Tritons. This is the second career player of the week award for Glover.
Lind, a 6-0 junior from Vancouver, Wash. (Prairie HS), was named the GNAC Pitcher of the Week after closing out the Wolves' 7-5 win over No. 1 UC San Diego. Lind pitched the final 2.2 innings without allowing a run to pick up the save. In two appearances against the Tritons, he pitched 3 2/3 innings and did not allow a run, while giving up three hits and a walk. This is the second career GNAC Pitcher of the Week honor for Lind, who also grabbed the award on the Wolves' opening week of the 2009 season.
The Western Oregon baseball team is still on the road in California as it prepares to face Cal State Dominguez Hills in a four-game series Feb. 16-18.
