Brandon Snook,
Ryan Chapman and
Dan Sprinkle all captured NCAA provisional qualifying standards in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase to highlight six members of the Western Oregon men's track & field team earning a standard Friday at the Oregon Twilight.
Brandon Snook ran a time of 9:11.11 in the event to knock over 7.5 seconds off his previous season-best time, and moved him into 16th on the 2011 NCAA performance list. That time also propelled Snook from sixth place into fourth on the Wolves' all-time top 10 list, and placed him eighth in conference history.
Finishing right behind Snook in the race,
Ryan Chapman posted a career-best time of 9:12.74. He eclipsed his previous personal-best time by over 12 seconds to move from 10th to fifth in Western Oregon history.
Joining them with a provisional standard of his own was
Dan Sprinkle. Sprinkle registered the seventh-fastest time in school history as he finished the race in 9:19.30. Sprinkle's mark gives Western Oregon three of the top six spots on the 2011 GNAC performance list.
Connor Kasler had a night he will never forget at the Oregon Twilight. He sprinted twice around the track in 1:51.74 to move into second place in Wolves history and earn an NCAA standard in the 800m. Kasler's provisional qualifying standard places him ninth on the 2011 NCAA performance list and seventh in GNAC history.

Jason Slowey seems to record another throw to move his name up the Western Oregon record books. This weekend it was the discus throw. He record a toss .01 meters better than his previous career-best, which he also set in Eugene at the Oregon Relays, as he secured his third place mark in Western Oregon history with the mark of 168-8 (51.41m). Slowey continues to lead the GNAC with NCAA provisional qualifying standards in both the discus and the shot put.
Kyle Larson added his name to the list of Wolves to earn an NCAA standard this when he posted a time of 3:52.14 in the men's 1,500m. That time moved his to fourth on the 2011 GNAC performance list and to sixth in Western Oregon history.
This Western Oregon men's and women's track & field teams will now prepare to host the GNAC Championships, May 13-14, at McArthur Field.
