[All-West Region team]
MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Wolves success this season will depend on how they pitch and they look to be in good shape on the mound with
Kirk Lind and
Grady Wood claiming first team NCBWA All-West Region honors.
Lind and Wood comprise two-thirds of the starting pitching staff, and they along with teammate
Bo Folkinga, were the three representatives from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
Lind split time between the rotation and the bullpen. He went 7-1 with a 1.53 earned run average and five saves while striking out 47 batters in 58.2 innings. During the season the senior from Vancouver, Wash. (Prairie HS) recorded a stretch of 24 consecutive scoreless innings and won seven straight starts. He was named first team All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference and selected for multiple all-region honors.
Wood was the 2011 GNAC Pitcher of the Year with an 8-4 record, a 2.32 ERA and three shutouts. He struck out 77 batters in 100.2 innings and opponents hit just .214 off him. He was named to three all-region teams.
Folkinga, a 2011 first team All-GNAC and NCBWA honorable mention selection, hit .375 with 12 doubles and 21 RBI last season as the Wolves' cleanup batter. He also sported an on-base percentage of .449 and scored 23 runs.
