Track & field places 19 on USTFCCCA all-region team

MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Western Oregon track & field team placed 19 of its members on the USTFCCCA All-Region team for the 2012 indoor season. The men had 14 earn all-region honors, while the women placed five on the team. To be eligible for an all-region honor a student-athlete must finish in the top five from each region in individual events or is a member of a relay ranked in the region's top three.

Ryan Hansen and Connor Kasler led the way for the Wolves by collecting three all-region honors apiece. Hansen, who will be participating in the 2012 Indoor Championships this weekend (Mar. 9-10), had the top time in the West Region in the 800m with an adjusted time of 1:51.65. He was also a member of the West Region's top 4x400m relay team that won the GNAC Championships with a time of 3:18.60. Hansen also ran on the distance medley relay team which placed third in the region with a time of 10:10.89. 

Connor Kasler was on that same distance medley relay team as Hansen. The junior from Grants Pass, Ore., also picked up all-region honors in the 5,000m by placing fifth with a time of 14:58.35 and in the mile with a time of 4:13.84.

The Wolves also had Kyle Larson, Chris Olsen and Anthony Yakovich pick up two all-region honors each. Landon Burningham, Brett Campbell, Eric Gaines, Matson Hardie, Matt Kaino, Tim Lundy, Kody Rhodes, Dan Sprinkle and Tyler Thomas each picked up an all-region honor of their own. This is the second straight season Gaines, Kaino, Kasler, Larson and Yakovich have earned all-region honors.

Katie Pelchar, Ashley Potter and Madison McClung were all repeat all-region performers for the women's team. Potter had the top mark in the West Region in the triple jump with a leap of 39-7 (12.06m). McClung also had the top mark in the region in the 200m with a time of 25.16. Pelchar had the second-best high jump mark in the West by clearing 5-7.25 (1.71m). Janelle Everetts had the third-best time in the 800m (2:11.78) and Charlene Harber scored the third-most points in the Pentathlon (3,372).

The Wolves will be sending Potter, Everetts and Hansen to the NCAA Indoor Championships in Mankato, Minn., on Mar. 9-10.
