MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Western Oregon track & field team will be in the Bay Area this weekend as members of the team compete at the Stanford Invitational and the SFSU Distance Carnival.
Stanford Invitational:
The Stanford Invitational begins at 9:00 a.m. on Friday morning with the men's javelin. The running events will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the women's steeple chase. The meet will pick back up on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. The meet will be held at the Cobb Track and Angell Field, and features some of the best competition from around the nation including schools from the Pac-12 and SEC.
SFSU Distance Carnival:
The one-day SFSU Distance Carnival will be held this Friday at Cox Stadium. The women's 10,000m race will start the meet off at 8:00 a.m. and continue until 5:13 p.m. with the men's 4x400m relay.
Leading the GNAC
Even though Western Oregon is only four meets into the outdoor season, five Wolves have already claimed the top spot on the GNAC performance list this season.
Madison McClung claimed the No. 1 spot on the GNAC performance list in the women's 100m dash with a time of 12.47 which she registered at the Oregon Preview.
Kendale Hamlett, who was named the GNAC Male Athlete of the Week on Mar. 26, leads all GNAC men in the 200m with a time of 22.13 which he registered at the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open.
Brett Campbell continues to improve after capturing the GNAC 110m hurdles title as a freshman. He ran a 15.37 in the event at the Willamette Opener to take over the top spot in the GNAC by .08 seconds.
Matson Hardie also leaped to the top spot in the GNAC at the Willamette Opener. He registered a mark of 46-6.25 (14.18m) in the triple jump to lead the GNAC by 6.5 inches.
Amanda Schumaker's NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 151-6 (46.17m) in the javelin continues to keep her atop the GNAC performance list as she looks to return to the NCAA Championships for the third straight year.
