Boyd earns West Region's top Hitter of the Week award

MONMOUTH, Ore. - Griff Boyd was named the West Region Player of the Week (May 9) by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association for his outstanding performance last week against Saint Martin's.

Boyd, a third baseman from Medford, Ore. (South Medford HS), had 10 hits in 18 at bats, including four doubles, as the Wolves won five of six games against Saint Martin's. The senior drove in six runs, including two to break a 5-5 tie in Wednesday's 7-5 win at Monmouth. In Saturday's nightcap, he had three hits in three at bats and scored one run while driving in a second run.  In Sunday's 6-5 victory, he had a hit and a walk in three plate appearances and also scored a run.

Boyd is now tied with teammate Bo Folkinga for third place in the GNAC batting race with .370 averages, one point in back of runner-up Sean McDonald of Northwest Nazarene. Wolf shortstop Blake Miller is hitting .402 and leads McDonald by 31 points. Boyd has now reached safely in 13 games, which included six multi-hit games.

The Western Oregon baseball team will close out its regular season this weekend at Montana State Billings. The Wolves and Yellowjackets will open their four-game series on Friday at Noon (PST) and close the series with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at Noon.
