GNAC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS - DAY ONE RESULTS
NAMPA, Idaho – The Western Oregon men's track and field team had four athletes score in the long jump to lead the Wolves during the first day of action at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. WOU currently stands in second-place at the meet and enters day two seven points behind men's team leader Western Washington (46).
The WOU long jumpers led the effort as they combined to score 19 points in the event.
Matson Hardie led the Wolves effort, finishing in second-place with a leap of 23-2.50 while
Jake Hyde finished in third with a jump of 22-2.25.
Michael Glover (5th, 21-05.50) and
Eric Gaines (8th, 20-11.25) also scored in the event for the Wolves.
Hardie also earned a second-place finish in the high jump as his leap of 6-07.00 tied for the best in the meet; however, the junior fell to second-place due to the tiebreaker. Garret Hardie also scored in the event, finishing in fifth-place with a jump of 6-05.00.
The WOU men's distance relay squad continued its strong season as the team of
Zeke Wilson,
Harrison Leep,
Josh Hanna and Sam Naftziger finished in third-place with a time of 10:20.05.
Brady Beagley rounded out the scoring for WOU on the men's side as he raced to a sixth-place finish in the 3000-meters, finishing in a time of 8:43.51. Beagley's time was a new personal mark and puts him on the school's all-time top ten list.
In the heptathlon, Gaines had a strong effort for the Wolves as he enters the final three events on Saturday in third place with 2518 points.
In preliminary action,
Brett Campbell (8.45) and
Kody Rhodes (8.50) qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles while
Bryce Leedham (7.05) advanced in the 60-meter dash. Leedham's time of 7.05 was a season best.
On the women's side,
Maylea Tooze led the Wolves with a seveth-place finish in the pentathlon (2816 points) as WOU stands in eighth-place in the team standings entering the final day.
The women's distance medley relay team also picked up a pair of points for WOU as the team of
Natalie Schafer,
Bailey Beeson,
Laura Copenhagen and
Nicole Anderson finished in a time of 12:50.32.
Meanwhile,
Madison McClung advanced to the finals of the 60-meter dash as her time of 7.89 has her seeded in fifth-place in the event.
Shanai Campbell posted a season and lifetime best of 8.13 in the same event; however, she just missed out on the finals.
Western Washington leads the women's race after day one with a team score of 63.50.
WOU will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 16, for the final day of the GNAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
