Blake Miller highlighted four Wolves athletes selected to the 2013 Daktronics, Inc. NCAA Division II All-West Region squad as the senior was named West Region Player of the Year by the organization. Miller, who was a first-team selection, was joined on the squad by
AJ Burke,
Kody Stone and
Daniel McNabb.
Miller earns the player of the year honor after ranking near the top of every batting category in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The senior ranked second in the conference with a .372 batting average while leading the league in hits (74), runs scored (52), doubles (18) and on-base percentage (/457).
The senior shortstop earned his second consecutive, first-team all-region selection as he is the first WOU baseball position player to win the region's top award since Greg McCarthy was named NCBWA West Region Player of the Year in 2005.
Miller was joined on the squad by three WOU athletes garnering second-team honors. Burke, a unanimous first-team all-conference selection, was named to the all-region squad after leading the league in strikeouts (91) and earned run average (2.78). The senior posted a 7-4 overall record as he helped lead WOU to the conference regular season and postseason crown.
McNabb earned second-team honors at designated hitter after leading the GNAC in hitting with a .376 average while Stone was selected to the squad following a season that saw him establish a new conference record with 13 saves as a relief pitcher.
As one of the members of the all-region first-team, Miller will be placed on the NCAA Division II All-America ballot. The announcement of the All-America teams will be in the coming weeks.
Glenn Wallace of Sonoma State was named the Daktronics, Inc. NCAA Division II West Region Pitcher of the Year.
