MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon track & field team returns to action this week as the Wolves will send four javelin throwers to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Pueblo, Colo., on Saturday, May 25. The men are scheduled to compete on Saturday at 11:15 a.m. with the women scheduled to throw at 1:50 p.m.
WOU sends four javelin throwers to the national meet, hosted by Colorado State Pueblo, as
Amanda Schumaker and
Seabre Church qualified on the women's side while
Justin Larson and
Shane Brooks will compete at the men's championship.
“It has been a great season for our javelin throwers and I know they are excited to represent WOU at the national meet,” head coach
Mike Johnson said. “Participating in the national meet is a great reward for a season of hard work. Each of them has their sights set on All-American honors and I know they are capable of accomplishing that goal.”
Schumaker leads the Wolves into the event as she looks to become a four-time All-American in the event after finishing third at the national meet last year. The senior enters the event as the third-seed after winning the title in the event at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a toss of 153-06.
Church is making her second consecutive appearance in the national meet after finishing in 12th-place a year ago. The junior enters the event seeded sixth overall as she hit a season-high mark of 151-05.25 while winning the John Knight Twilight.
On the men's side, Larson and Brooks will be making their first national meet appearance for the Wolves. Brooks enters the event as the No. 11 seed overall following a season-high mark of 207-10 at the GNAC meet two weeks ago.
Meanwhile, Larson enters his first national meet as the No. 15 seed following his toss of 202-03 at the Stanford Invitational in March.
