FULL RESULTS
NAMPA, Idaho – Western Oregon University men's track and field student-athlete,
Josh Hanna, won the 800-meter title at the 2014 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Championships Saturday.
The sophomore raced to a 1:54.14 finish, edging out teammate and defending conference 800-meter champion,
Ryan Hansen. Hanna's time is eighth on the WOU all-time list, while Hansen crossed the line at 1:55.07 in third place. Both times were NCAA Div. II National Championship provisional qualifying marks.
Audrey Hellesto shattered the school record in the 400 meters. She ran 57.62 in a third place finish in the event. She provisionally-qualified for the NCAA Div. II National Championships with her time.
Kody Rhodes broke the 60-meter hurdle school record with a time of 8.33. He was 0.01 faster than Andy Loscutoff's four-year-old record. The senior finished fourth in the event.
Eric Gaines battled to a third place finish in the men's heptathlon. The senior scored six team points for the Wolves with his 4,444 point total in the two-day multi-event. He won the final event, the 1,000 meters, to help close out a late run for the top-three finish.
Brady Beagley scored nine team points. He placed third in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:42.69, and also had a sixth place finish in the mile at 4:16.13. Freshman
Kaelen Byrum also scored nine team points, having a third place finish in the high jump with a top mark of 1.95 meters, and a sixth place finish in the triple jump at 12.62m.
Jeff Howard placed sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.45.
Carraig Colahan scored two team points with a seventh place finish in the weight throw with a top toss of 14.87m.
On the women's side,
Madison McClung wrapped up her indoor career by adding seven points to her 40-point career total. She entered the meet in 24th place on the GNAC all-time conference meet point list. She placed sixth in the 60 meters and fifth in the 200 meters.
Emmi Collier placed fifth in the shot put. Her top throw of 12.73m scored five points.
Rochelle Pappel scored three points with a sixth place finish in the women's 60-meter hurdles.
Rebecca Laible totaled nine points with a third place triple jump finish and a sixth place finish in the high jump.
Bailey Beeson had a seventh place finish in the women's 800-meter final with a time of 2:18.18.
As a team, the Western Oregon men placed fifth, while the women came in seventh.
Alex Donigian of Western Washington and Karolin Anders of Alaska Anchorage earned GNAC Male and Female Outstanding Performer honors in leading their respective teams to titles. Both teams were the defending champions; the title was the fourth for the Vikings and the second for the Seawolves since they started sponsoring indoor last year.
Western Oregon competes in its first outdoor meet of the season Friday at the Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker. The meet, hosted by Linfield, begins at 9 a.m. in McMinnville.
