Rhodes Drives WOU to Solid Showing

EUGENE, Ore. – Western Oregon University men's track and field student-athlete, Kody Rhodes, hit a pair of automatic qualifying times for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships at the Lane Preview Saturday.

Rhodes won the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdle races at the meet hosted by Lane Community College. The senior already owned the second-best mark in the GNAC in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.93; he was .03 seconds behind that time Saturday. His 54.69 time in the 400-meter hurdles is the fourth fastest time in the conference currently.

In the women's hurdles, Rochelle Pappel crossed the line first in the 100-meter hurdles. Her time of 15.07 was over a second ahead of the rest of the field. The sophomore's top time of the season is 14.95, a GNAC provisional mark. She also finished second in the 100 meters. Audrey Hellesto hit a GNAC provisional mark with a second place finish in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:05.63.

In the first running event of the meet, the Wolves swept the top three spots in the men's 1,500 meters. Brady Beagley (3:56.58), Ryan Hansen (3:57.20), and Drew Larson (3:58.16) ran the second, third, and fourth best times in the conference so far this season. All three hit GNAC provisional marks Saturday.

Tyrell Williams ran the fourth best 200-meter time in the GNAC. The junior crossed the line at 22.36, which easily won his heat, and was second in the event.

In the women's high jump, Emily Moe cleared the 4-11 (1.50 meters) bar. That mark is currently the best in the conference.

The Wolves return to Eugene next Saturday for the Oregon Preview, hosted by the University of Oregon. The meet begins at 12:35 p.m. with the 2,000-meter steeplechase. Live results will be available on WOUWolves.com.
