CORVALLIS, Ore. – Western Oregon University women's track and field student-athlete,
Seabre Church, threw a NCAA Div. II Outdoor National Championships automatic-qualifying mark in the javelin at the OSU Invitational Saturday.
Church won the women's javelin with a top throw of 155-9 (47.48 meters). The senior's third toss automatically qualifies her for the National Championships from May 22-24 in Raleigh, N.C. The mark is second on the school's all-time list and second currently in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. She beat her personal record by four feet. Church has won both meets she has competed so far this season.
Western Oregon completed the javelin sweep after
Shane Brooks claimed the men's title. After starting the season with a win at the Willamette Opener, the sophomore captured the OSU Invite crown with a top mark of 211-7 (64.49m). The mark is second in the conference currently, and improved his NCAA provisional mark set last week in Salem. The throw was six inches short of the school record, and his new personal record is second on the program's all-time list.
Justin Larson placed second in the event with a lifetime best mark of 206-4 (62.91m). His throw was also a provisional national qualifier and fourth in the GNAC currently. It's also third on the school's all-time list.
In the women's shot put,
Emmi Collier took first place. Her top toss of 42-8 (13.02m) is shy of a NCAA provisional mark, but improves her GNAC Championships auto-qualifying mark. It also was nine inches better than her previous top mark in the conference and lifetime best. The sophomore also placed second in the hammer throw Friday. Her best result of 141-4 (43.09m) was personal best and a GNAC Championships provisional mark.
The Western Oregon men took the top four spots in the 110-meter hurdles.
Kody Rhodes (14.93) placed first, followed by
Brett Campbell (15.54),
Garrett Hardie (16.19), and
Dustin Camarillo (16.31).
Rochelle Pappel won the women's race with a time of 14.95.
The WOU women's 4x400-meter relay team of

"We had a good day today, starting with the first event of the day obviously in the javelin," WOU Head Coach
Mike Johnson said. "Along with some event wins, we placed several good early season marks. The outdoor season is truly underway."
