MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon University women's and men's track and field teams host their lone home meet of the regular season at the annual John Knight Twilight Friday.

The meet, which is celebrating its 10th year, was renamed for the former WOU Head Coach John Knight in 2008. Knight coached WOU's track and field program from 1989 to 2003 and had 17 individual national champions during that time, and won national coach of the year honors in 2003 (NCAA) and 1993 (NAIA).

"We love this meet," Wolves' Head Coach Mike Johnson said. "It's important to us because a lot of us know John Knight. He was a great coach and is a great guy. We love having this meet in his honor."

In his collegiate career, Knight coached over 250 All-Americans and was named a conference coach of the year for eight consecutive seasons from 1996-2003 in the Cascade Conference, Pacific West Conference and Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Knight is a member of the NAIA track and field Hall of Fame.

Western Oregon welcomes a strong contingent of competition once again this season to McArthur Field. The field spans NCAA Div. I to junior colleges, along with several club teams and unattached participants. Some of the schools competing are Oregon State, Portland, Willamette, Concordia, Southern Oregon and Northwest Christian.

Seabre Church owns the lone automatic qualifying mark for the national championships. The senior will be throwing the javelin in her final John Knight Twilight meet. The defending John Knight Twilight javelin winner, enters the week with the third best mark in the event in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference at 155-9 (47.48 meters). That toss is also sixth in NCAA Div. II.

Brady Beagley, who has provisional national qualifying marks in three different events, placed sixth in the steeplechase at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival in a time of 9:07.66 last week. That time ranks sixth in Div. II. He also has Div. II's fifth-best time in the 1,500 (3:50.72). The senior will be looking for his fourth qualifying mark at the John Knight Twilight in the 800 meters.

Tyrell Williams will have his chance to clinch his third auto-mark for the conference championships when he runs the 400 meters Friday. The junior set a pair of meet records in San Francisco last week in the 100 and 200 meters. His 200-meter time of 21.59 is the sixth fastest time in GNAC history.

Ryan Hansen and Josh Hanna are first and second in the conference currently in the 800 meters. Beagley and Zach Holloway also top the steeplechase in the GNAC. All four have national provisional qualifying marks.

Former Olympian, Geena Lara, will be racing at the meet in the 400 and 1,500 meter races. The two-time NCAA champion at Michigan, ran for the United States in the 2012 Olympics. She currently coaches at Oregon State.

The meet begins with the men's hammer throw at 1 p.m. Track events start at 4 p.m. with the women's 4x100-meter relay.
