MONMOUTH, Ore. – In case you've missed it, a dog disrupted the first game between Western Oregon University softball and Simon Fraser University (B.C.) last Sunday. The video of the incident has caught a bit of attention.
After the Wolves clinched the regular season Great Northwest Athletic Conference regular season title, the video of the clip was posted on the WOU Athletics' YouTube account late Tuesday night, and since then it has been viewed over 150,000 times on that page alone. The video has been replicated on some other YouTube accounts and has been seen over 200,000 times through YouTube.
The clip was picked up by
ESPN and made Sports Center on Monday.
Other ESPN shows used the clip as well. The
MLB Network then discussed the dog interruption on its daily show "Intentional Talk." National news outlet,
CNN, then jumped on the story and ran it Tuesday evening. It was featured on ESPN's
Sports Nation, PTI, and
Around the Horn. The
NCAA put the video on its front page.
Throughout the day Tuesday, the clip immersed the web on several national websites like
Yahoo Sports,
Bleacher Report,
Sports Illustrated,
Deadspin,
MLB Fan Cave,
Fox Sports,
Sports Grid,
Buzz60,
SBNation, and many more. National print news outlets also loved the story as
USA Today even ran a piece on the dog.
Local outlets like
KGW, KATU, KEZI,
KPTV, and the
Salem Statesman Journal all showcased the disruption as well Tuesday. The clip was deemed the
"Video of the Day" by the Oregonian. News outlets across the country, like these in
California,
Alabama,
North Carolina,
Florida,
Michigan,
Texas, and
New York, showed the clip on their nightly news stations.
Just when it didn't think it could have got any bigger for WOU, the Wolves' softball team woke up Thursday morning at the GNAC Championships in Richland, Wash., to the clip being shown on
Good Morning America and the Today Show. ABC and NBC news outlets joined in on the footage.
Lastly, a representative for Univision, Al Jazeera TV, Paris news, and London news reached out to WOU Athletics Thursday morning for the footage. So, Western Oregon University has officially gone international with the clip. Here's
