OSU FULL RESULTS PACIFIC DAY 1 RESULTSCORVALLIS, Ore. – Western Oregon University women's track and field student-athlete,
Madison McClung, broke the school's 100-meter record at the OSU High Performance meet Friday.
McClung raced to a 12.01 finish at the meet hosted by Oregon State University. She placed third in the event, behind a pair of runners from Portland State that finished under 11.80. The senior ran 12.04 earlier this season, which matched Heather Ewing's record set in 1994. McClung improved her provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Div. II National Championships. She remains the second fastest in the women's 100 meters in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference this season, and fourth all-time.
Tyrell Williams nearly broke the men's 200-meter school record. The junior won the event Friday with a time of 21.15. He ran away from the field, as second place finished at 21.56. Williams' moved from fifth to second on the school's all-time list, and sixth to second on the conference's all-time list.
In the men's 800 meters,
Josh Hanna ran the second fastest time in WOU history. The sophomore raced to a 1:50.45 finish, placing sixth. His time is currently the top finish in the conference, and improves his NCAA provisional mark. Hanna's time is also the second fastest in GNAC history.
Rebecca Laible had the best mark in the women's triple jump in the conference so far this season. The junior smashed her previous season-best with a 38-4.25 (11.69m) top mark. She finished fourth in the event Friday, but nearly had an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
In the men's 100 meters,
Jeff Howard placed first at 10.86, the lone runner to finish under 11 seconds. He nearly matched his season-best mark of 10.85, which is the fourth fastest time in the conference and an automatic qualifying mark for the GNAC Championships.
Aaron Whitaker won the men's 800-meter open section. His time of 1:55.16 provisionally qualifies for the GNAC Championships. Whitaker was also part of the Wolves' 4x100-meter relay team that took first. Joining Whitaker was Howard, Williams, and
Garrett Hardie, on the winning quartet. Their time was 41.92, the second-best so far this season in the conference.
Kyle Lane and
Matson Hardie both hit conference-qualifying marks. Hardie had an auto-mark with a seventh place finish in the men's high jump. He had a top leap of 6-4 (1.93 meters). Lane placed eighth in the men's long jump. His top mark was 21-2.5 (6.46m).
Rochelle Pappel improved her GNAC auto-mark in the women's 100-meter hurdles. The sophomore raced to a 14.54 finish, keeping her fourth in the conference this season.
On the first day of the Pacific Twilight,
Emily Wetherell hit a conference provisional mark in the women's hammer throw. The sophomore smashed her personal record with a 134-02 (40.90m) toss. She won her flight and placed sixth in the event.
