Early goal leads to a WOU Soccer loss

Western Washington's Emily Webster scored the only goal of the game in the 17th minute.

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Western Oregon soccer dropped their first GNAC game of the season to Western Washington, 1-0, on Saturday.

The Vikings' (5-1, 1-0 GNAC) goal came in the 17th minute of the first half from Emily Webster at the top of the 18-yard box as she sent the ball toward the bottom left post.

Western Washington outshot the Wolves (4-2, 0-1 GNAC), 15-6, keeping possession for the majority of the game. The Vikings also had more offensive opportunities with their six corner kicks, whereas Western Oregon didn't have any.

The Wolves had a few chances to even the game when Makana Pundyke was caught in the Vikings' 18-yard box two times during the second half. Both of these shots, however, went straight to Western Washington goalkeeper Ashley Hayden.

Pundyke had another shot during the first half, while Allison Sprecher, Vicky Cruz Rosales, and Savannah Bogan also took shots throughout the game.

The goalkeeper matchup resulted in Wolves' Lindsey Mabinuori making seven saves, while Hayden had three.

Western Oregon will attempt to bounce back from the loss as they travel to Montana State Billings on Thursday, Sept. 24, and Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, Sept. 26.
