Several members of the Western Oregon track and field team opened the outdoor season at the Linfield Opener in McMinnville, Ore. on Friday, March 4 and the Willamette Opener in Salem, Ore. on Saturday, March 5.

Emily Gillett competed as the only Wolf at the Linfield Opener in the 10,000 meters and placed eighth with a time of 40:27.34. Gillette's time places her in the 10th spot on Western Oregon's all-time record list.

On the women's side at the Willamette Opener,
Laura Patrick placed first in two events, including the 100 meters (12.65) and the 200 meters (26.08).

In the 400 meters,
Olivia Woods's first place time of 57.40 and
Megan Rose's second place time of 57.76 put them at fifth and sixth in Western Oregon's all-time record list.
Â
The lady Wolves had first place finishers in five field events.
Rachael Huffman won both the shotput (11.02 meters / 36-2 ¼) and discus (37.51 meter / 123-1).
Emily Wetherell took first in the hammer, while also hitting a personal record of 49.01 meters (160-9 ¾).
Amanda Short won the javelin with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 42.7 meters (140-1 ¾).
Kathryn Pitts won the long jump with a mark of 4.82 meters (15-9 ¾).

Also in the hammer, three other women had personal best marks, including
Alecia Falck (43.27 meters / 141-11 ¾),
Sylvia Dean (41.24 meters / 135-4), and
Cheyanne Auchard (37.00 meters / 121-5).

On the men's side, Wesley Gray placed first in the 100 meters, finishing in 11.23 seconds.
Cody Warner won the 400 meters with a time of 48.71. In the same race, James Vetrrus hit a personal best with a time of 49.77.

In the 400-meter hurdles,
AJ Holmberg took the first place spot in 56.28 seconds.

Jeremy Moore won the shot put, discus, and hammer, while attaining personal bests in the shotput and hammer. Moore reached 15.13 meters (49-8) in the shotput, 44.29 meters (145-4) in the discus, and 47.77 meters (156-9) in the hammer.

Kenny Klippel also had a personal best in the hammer with a mark of 42.72 meters (140-2).
Â
Justin Larson reached an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the javelin with a mark of 59.35 meters (194-9).

Up next, seven Wolves will compete in the 2016 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championship in Pittsburg, Kan. from March 11-12. The outdoor season will continue with the Pacific Preview in Forest Grove, Ore. on March 12.
