FULL RESULTS (TFRRS)

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Two event wins and two NCAA provisional marks were hit by the Western Oregon track & field team at the Linfield Open held Saturday at Maxwell Field, as the Wolves competed for the final time before next week's Great Northwest Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at home.
 
On the women's side, sophomore Olivia Woods picked up her third overall event win of the outdoor season, taking first place in the 400 meters. Running the event for only the second time this season, Woods time of 57.19 seconds beat out teammate junior Megan Rose who ran a close second at 57.89.
 
Freshman Grayson Burke finished second in the 800-meter race, heading the secondary group with a time of 2:21.21 in her debut at this distance after focusing on shorter sprints this year.
 
Senior Rachael Huffman notched the Wolves' only provisional on the women's side with a season best in the javelin. Huffman won the first heat with a mark of 42.42m on her third throw to surpass the 40-meter mark for the first time in 2017.
 
On the men's side, freshman Sawyer Heckard paced the field in the 3,000-meter steeplechase winning in a time of 10:05.24. It was a debut in the event for Heckard and sophomore Matthew Haglund who finished third at 10:21.09.
 
Junior AJ Holmberg ran just off his season best in the 800m to finish second in a field that saw 10 different WOU runners place in the top 21 overall. Holmberg's 1:51.90 was followed by sophomore Dustin Nading in third (1:53.23) and senior Michael Chin in fourth (1:55.26).
 
Senior Wesley Gray took second place in the triple jump with a mark of 13.86m into a fairly strong headwind. Junior Kegan Allen went past 50 meters for the third time this season with an effort of 50.15m, placing third in the hammer.
 
Western Oregon turns its attention to the GNAC Championships that begin on Friday, May 12, with field events kicking off the action at 2 p.m. Action of the track will follow at 2:45 p.m. at McArthur Field in Monmouth.
