NAMPA, Idaho—Behind a pair of individual tiles by David Ribich, the Western Oregon University men's track & field team placed third overall at the GNAC Indoor Championships on Saturday.

Following the competition, Ribich was named the Track Athlete of the Meet while his meet record in the 800-meter run earned the senior the Performance of the Meet award via a vote from the GNAC head coaches.

The WOU men tallied nine more points than a year ago but dropped one position from last year's results. Concordia scored 114 points to win their first GNAC track & field title while last year's champion, Alaska Anchorage, placed second with 108 points.

The WOU women nearly doubled their total from a year ago with a 43-point haul to place seventh overall. The finish was a two-spot improvement for the Wolves from the 2017 championships. Central Washington and Seattle Pacific tied for the meet high with 136 points while Concordia placed third with 93.

The Wolves scored 54 points in the 800 and the mile alone with Ribich leading the way with titles in both races.

Ribich guided WOU to a 1-2-3-4 finish in the mile with a time of 4:11.08. On his shoulder, teammate Dustin Nading placed second with a 4:11.72 while Justin Crosswhite and Parker Marson took the next two positions with times of 4:14.39 and 4:14.90, respectively. SFU's Oliver Jorgenson broke WOU's stranglehold with a 4:17.41 for fifth place while Stephen Fry gave the Wolves a fifth scorer in the event with a seventh-place finish at 4:22.47.

Crossing the line nearly three seconds ahead of the next competitor, Ribich cruised to a win in the 800 with a meet-record time of 1:50.83.  Thomas Normandeau (3rd, 1:54.79), Curt Knott (5th 1:54.96) and Neal Cranston (6th, 1:55.60) gave WOU four in the top six in the four-lap indoor race.

Suzanne Van De Grift nearly gave WOU a sweep in the mile with a runner-up result in the women's race. Van De Grift clocked a 5:01.85 with Alaska Anchorage's Tamara Perez taking the top spot with a 5:00.52.

In the women's 800, Megan Rose and Olivia Woods finished consecutive with Rose turning in a 2:11.98 for fifth and Woods a 2:12.82 for sixth for a seven-point addition in the team standings.

Both WOU teams scored in the 400 as well with Aaron Whitaker taking second in the men's race with a 48.82 and Grayson Burke seventh for the women with a 58.32.

The women's squad ended the meet with a fourth-place result in the 1,600-meter relay after toured the track in 3:53.39—just off the team's season best of 3:51.84.

After Alani Troutman picked up a fourth-place finish in the long jump on Friday, the WOU men gained points in two more jumping events on Saturday.

Jalon Fields and Kolton Koenig-Rohde went 7-8 in the triple jump while Koenig-Rohde doubled up with a seventh-place result in the high jump.

Mitchell Kruse, meanwhile, moved up one position on the final day of completion of the heptathlon to place seventh. Kruse scored 3,495 points in the seven-event competition to add two points to WOU's total.
