Women's Track & Field | 4/5/2018 10:06:00 PM
MONMOUTH, Ore.—Taking advantage of a calm and sunny afternoon in Polk County, more than 30 Western Oregon track & field career bests were recorded while the Wolves hosted the John Knight Twilight at MacArthur Field on Friday.
In addition to the career bests, six Wolves captured event titles on the day while six more earned a runner-up result in their respective event.
The Wolves swept the 1,500-meter runs with
Kennedy Rufener topping the women's field with a 4:38.79.
Justin Crosswhite led a 1-2 WOU finish in the men's competition with a 3:54.72 while teammate
Tyler Jones crossed with a 3:55.88 for second place.
WOU placed three runners in the top four in the men's 800 with
Neal Cranston taking top honors with an all-time best 1:55.42.
Dominick Marshall followed in third with a 1:57.61 and Zach Kanelis placed fourth with a 1:58.73.
Olivia Woods led a dominating turn in the 400 as the Wolves captured the top four places. Woods unleashed a 56.01 for first and was followed by
Megan Rose (57.19),
Suzanne Van De Grift (57.24) and
Grayson Burke (57.43).
The times for Woods, Van De Grift and Burke all represented career bests while Woods' mark set a new school record by erasing her own previous best of 56.40.
Other event wins by WOU occurred in the men's pole vault and the men's triple jump.
Jackson Stallard cleared a career best 14-3 1/4 (3.40m) in the vault while Fields soared a career best 45-7 3/4 (13.91m) in the triple for event wins.
All five WOU competitors in the men's hammer hit lifetime bests with
Logan Barker taking the highest place with a 3rd-place result after uncorking a 143-10 (43.84m).
Mont Child placed fourth,
Nick Sieber fifth,
Owen Collins sixth and
Karsten Collins 10th in the event.
Sieber and
Owen Collins were joined by
Chris Steffey with career bests in the discus while Child nabbed a PR in the shot put.
Career bests in the women's throws include,
Moana Gianotti in the hammer,
Halie Korff in the discus and
Darian Wilson in the javelin. Wilson's throw of 144-5 (44.03m) bettered her already NCAA DII Provisional qualifying performance from earlier in the year.
The Wolves will return to action next week when they travel to Linfield's Jenn Boyman Memorial Invitational held in McMinnville, Oregon on April 7.
