MONMOUTH, Ore.—Western Oregon University women's basketball head coach Holli Howard Carpenter announced a pair of signings to its 2018 recruiting class on Friday.
Joining the Wolves next season will be incoming freshman Amber Winkler (Eugene, Ore./Sheldon H.S.) and incoming junior from Walla Walla Community College Teresa Acock (Walla Walla, Wash./DeSales H.S.).
Winkler was a key component for the Oregon state prep power Sheldon High School while Acock was a member of the NWAC champions last season.
Amber Winkler
Position: Forward
Height: 6'1"
Hometown: Eugene, Ore.
High School: Sheldon
Club: Oregon Elite and Team Concept AAU teams
Accolades: Helped guide Sheldon to the Oregon 6A quarterfinals and a 22-7 overall record as a senior… Part of the Irish team that was co-champions of the Southwest Conference and a No. 6 ranking in the state… Earned scholar-athlete honors.
"Amber is a solid stretch four with a lot of length and a strong motor. She is a hustle player that can impact the game on both ends of the floor. Defensively, she gets a ton of deflections and has the ability to block and alter shots. She is very versatile offensively and can hit the open three or get to the rim in one bounce. Amber has a huge upside and with her work ethic will be able to take her game to the next level quickly," – WOU Head Coach
Holli Howard-Carpenter
"Amber has tremendous potential for the Wolves. She is a late bloomer and her best years are in front of her. Her defensive talent has always been her strength but her offensive potential is limitless. She will be a real good one for Holli and the Wolves and will make an impact!" -- Oregon Elite Coach Gary Lavender
Teresa Acock
Position: Guard
Height: 5'5"
Hometown: Walla Walla, Wash.
High School: DeSales
Previous School: Walla Walla C.C.
Accolades: Started all 33 games for the NWAC champions from Walla Walla… Helped the Warriors to 30 straight wins en route to a 32-1 overall record… Part of an Eastern Conference championship steam after leading the Warriors to a 16-0 conference record… Averaged 13.3 points per game and connected on 40.9 percent from 3-point range… Made 101 shots from 3-point range.
"Teresa is a pure shooter with impressive range and will help stretch the floor for us next year. No matter where she is on the court, her hands and feet are always ready to shoot. She has a solid mid-range game and has active hands on defense. She is a competitor and proven winner and will, no doubt, help us build a gym rat culture," – WOU Head Coach
Holli Howard-Carpenter
"Teresa is one of the most dedicated players I've coached. She lived in the gym this summer and that is a big reason why she shot so well this season. She will be hard for us to replace, but our loss is Western Oregon's gain," -- WWCC Head Coach Bobbi Hazeltine
