Western Oregon University Athletics

All student-athletes including prospective student athletes must receive medical clearance annually before every competitive sports season from the Western Oregon University Sports Medicine Staff prior to participation in any “NCAA Reportable Accountable Athletic Activity”. There is no financial cost to the student-athlete for their pre-participation medical examination if they are present on the institutional declared time and date. The Western Oregon University Sports Medicine Staff have declared the following dates and times of the Pre-Participation Examination for the 2010-11 academic year. All Pre-Participation Examinations will take place in the NPE athletic training room. Time and date of your examination is subject to change, please expect notice from your coach or athletic training staff for specific time or changes.

The pre-participation examination consists of five different categories of student-athletes. The categories have been defined below.  Click on your appropriate hyperlink below and follow the specific instructions for each category. 

Returning Student-Athletes
This classification of student-athletes consists of individuals who received medical clearance to participate in WOU “NCAA Reportable Accountable Athletic Activity” the previous academic year and are present on the institutional declared date of the PPE.

New Student-Athletes
This classification of student-athletes consist of individuals who are not required to go through the tryout process, did not receive medical clearance from the Western Oregon University Medical Director to participate in intercollegiate athletics the previous year and are present on the institutional declared date of the PPE.

Late Returning Student-Athletes
This classification of student-athletes consists of individuals who received medical clearance to participate in WOU “NCAA Reportable Accountable Athletic Activity” the previous academic year, and were not present on the institutional declared date of the PPE.

Late Invite New Student-Athletes
This classification of student-athletes consists of individuals who are not required to go through the tryout process, have been invited to become a member of a WOU sports team and did not receive medical clearance from the Western Oregon University Medical Director to participate in intercollegiate athletics the previous year. In addition this student-athlete was not present on the institutional declared date of the PPE. Therefore, all “Late Invite New Student-Athletes” are personally and financially responsible to complete the following pre-participation and medical clearance process.

Try-Out Student-Athletes
This classification of student-athletes consists of individuals who have been identified and invited by a WOU coach as being eligible to tryout for fulltime participation in the WOU intercollegiate athletic program.
