MONMOUTH, Ore. - After nearly two weeks of anticipation, the time has finally come for
Annan Applebee and the men's distance medley relay team to compete in the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, Mar. 11-12, in Albuquerque, N.M.
Applebee will get the meet started for the Wolves when she competes in the women's 800 meter run on Friday (Mar. 11) at 4:50 p.m. (PST). This is the third straight trip to Nationals for the senior from Gladstone, Ore. (Gladstone High School). In 2009 Applebee placed ninth at Nationals, and last season she took 12th while battling illness. This season she will enter the meet with the 10th best time in the country. She will run in the first of two preliminary heats on Friday. If Applebee finishes in the top eight, or possibly nine, during prelims she will compete in the finals on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. (MST).
The men's distance medley relay team of
Kyle Larson,
Matt Kaino,
Connor Kasler and
Chris Reed will run in the finals of their event on Friday at 6:45 p.m. (PST). They enter the meet as the sixth seed after registering a time of 9:55.06. Larson will start the race and run the first 1,200m of the 4,000m race. He will then give way to Kaino for 400m, who will hand off to
Connor Kasler for the next 800m and the third leg of the race.
Chris Reed will anchor the team by running the final 1,600m.
Every student-athlete attending the Nationals was also an all-region performer for the Wolves. Kaino was one of just five men in the country to earn all-region honors in four events. Larson and Reed each captured three all-region selections, while Kasler and Applebee each had one.
Other members of the Western Oregon track & field team will go to Mt. Hood this weekend to compete in the second meet of the outdoor season.
