The men gained over 30 points in the poll from last week and now sit with 418.09. The women are also receiving regional recognition as they stand at No. 10 with 179.36 points.
Seven meet the Standards:
It seems like each weekend a new member of the Western Oregon track & field team adds their name to the NCAA provisional qualifying list. This week it was not a new student-athlete but instead
Jason Slowey earning a provisional standard in another event.
Slowey recorded the third-longest throw in school history with a mark of 168-8 (51.40m) at the Oregon Relays. He now owns NCAA provisional qualifying standards in the shot put and the discus.
Last week it was
Kaitlyn Reid who earned her NCAA standard in the 400m hurdles with a career-best time of 1:02.53 at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Amanda Schumaker grabbed her provisional standard in the first meet of the season as this 2010 All-American looks to return to Nationals. She recorded a throw of 145-10 (44.45m) in the javelin at the Willamette Opener to ascend to the top spot in the GNAC and she has still not relinquished her spot.
Ashley Potter is also looking to get back to National for the second straight season. She registered a leap of 39-1.75 (11.93m) in the triple jump at the Oregon Preview en route to winning the event.
Chris Reed has NCAA provisional standards in all three of the men's distance races. He grabbed his provisional mark in the 1,500m at the John Knight Twilight, in the 5k at the Stanford Invitational and in the 10k at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Brandon Snook earned his first NCAA provisional standard in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:18.82 at the SFSU Distance Carnival.
Will Crook was the fifth member of the Western Oregon track & field team to place their name on the NCAA provisional qualifying list. He posted a throw of 195-9 (59.67m) at the Willamette Invite to earn and NCAA provisional standard in the event for the second straight season.
Records fall:
The Western Oregon women's 4x400m relay team
Janelle Everetts,
Annan Applebee,
Lexi Pola and
Annie Hayward broke the school record that had stood since 1998 when they combined to post a time of 3:51.07 at the Oregon Relays presented by Oregon Community Credit Union. The quartet took over the top spot on the Wolves' all-time top 10 list by 1.67 seconds, and moved into fifth place in Great Northwest Athletic Conference history
When
Chris Reed ran a time of 14.21.14 in the 5k at the Stanford Invitational he moved into first place in school history. This gave Reed possession of his fifth school record. He already owns the school's indoor records in the mile and the 5k. Reed also ran the fourth leg on the Wolves' All-American distance medley relay team. Reed's 5k time gave him his second outdoor record. He improved upon his school record in the 10k at the Mt. SAC Relays with a time of 29:44.77. With that mark, Reed shaved 7.62 seconds off his previous school record which he set during the 2010 season.
