Women place four on all-region team

Applebee earned her all-region honor in the 800m run

MONMOUTH, Ore.
Ashley Potter, Annan Applebee, Janelle Everetts and Amanda Schumaker all finished in the top five in the West Region during the outdoor track & field season to join the nine men already on the USTFCCCA all-region team.

Potter, Applebee and Everetts each backed up their all-region honor during the indoor season by winning award in the same event during the outdoor season.

Potter, a junior from Springfield, Ore. (Thurston HS), registered the top triple jump of the outdoor season when she leaped 39-4 (11.99m) at the Oregon Relays. Potter had the fourth-longest mark in the West in the triple jump during the indoor season.

After leading posting the fastest time in the 800m run during the indoor season (2:12.55), Applebee recorded a time of 2:11.21 in the event during the outdoor season to place second in the region. The senior from Gladstone, Ore. (Gladstone HS) will also represent Western Oregon in the 800m at Nationals on May 26-28.

Everetts, a junior from Salem, Ore. (McKay HS), joined Applebee as all-region award winners in the 800m run, as she finished fifth in the West with a time of 2:12.05.

Schumaker captured her first all-region award in the javelin. She registered a season-best throw of 147-7 (44.99m) at the GNAC Outdoor Championships to claim the third-best mark in the region. Schumaker did not compete for the Wolves during the 2011 indoor season.

Potter (triple jump) and Schumaker (javelin) will be joining Applebee at the 2011 Track & Field National Championships in Turlock, Calif., May 26-28. These three women, along with Will Crook (javelin), Chris Reed (10k) and Connor Kasler (800m), give Western Oregon six student-athletes in the National Championships for the second straight year.

Each member of the team earned their all-region selection after finishing in the top five in the region in their individual event.
