TURLOCK, Calif.
- Four Western Oregon University track & field student-athletes' seasons came to a close while they competed amongst the elite at that 2011 NCAA Division II Championships.

Connor Kasler finished eighth in overall time (1:52.10) in the 800m prelim races. However, Kasler will not advance to the finals, as the top two finishers in each heat and then the top two remaining times all advance onto the finals.

Joining Kasler in the 800m prelims was Annan Applebee. She placed 12th overall in the women's field with a time of 2:12.47.

Ashley Potter recorded a 15th place finish in the women's triple jump on Friday with a leap of 38-1.5 (11.62m).

“I thought everyone competed well,” said Western Oregon head coach Mike Johnson. “Both Connor and Annan ran as well as any time this year, and Ashley did well in windy conditions.”

Chris Reed posted a 13th place finish in the men's 10k on Thursday night with a time of 30:29.13.

“Chris had a good first 5k but he didn't stick with the pack when it broke and he ended up racing by himself,” Johnson explained.

“Track & field can be the cruelest of sports, and the kindest of sports,” continued Johnson. “Sometimes you can make it by a centimeter or an inch, and some one else does not; today we were just the wrong side.”

Amanda Schumaker and Will Crook will represent Western Oregon in the javelin throws on Saturday.

“We will go forward tomorrow with two armed competitors,” smirked Johnson.
